How to retrain (or 'edit') a robot

You can edit or update your robot by retraining it.

Retraining your robot is useful when you need to:

  • Modify the data points you're capturing.

  • Rename fields or lists.

  • Adjust your robot to handle website changes.

  • Add new data fields to capture.

  • Fix any extraction issues.

Edit in Table Studio

If the robot has no clicks, typing, or a password login, edit it in Table Studio. You do not need to retrain.

  1. Open the robot's table.

  2. Click Add column.

  3. Choose text, a list, or a screenshot, then click Open Design Mode.

  4. Name it, add Instructions in plain language, then click Preview.

  5. Click Save Robot.

Retrain in Robot Studio

Use Robot Studio if the robot has to click, type, or log in with a password. If you originally trained the robot with the Chrome extension, select that option instead.

  1. Navigate to your robot's detail page.

  2. Click on the Settings tab at the top of the page.

  3. Find and click the Re-train robot button.

  4. Select Robot Studio (note if you originally trained your robot using the Chrome extension, select that option during this step).

  5. Robot Studio will open with your previous capture settings.

  6. Make the necessary changes to your data selections or field names.

  7. Click Finish Recording when you're done.

  8. Review the updated data extraction results.

  9. Click Yes, looks good to save your changes.

Note: Retraining preserves your robot's history, runs, and associated workflows. Only the data capture settings are modified.

What happens after retraining

After successfully retraining your robot:

  • Your updated robot will be immediately available for use.

  • Any scheduled runs will use the new training settings.

  • The robot's extraction history will remain intact.

  • Any workflows connected to the robot will continue to function.

Tips for successful retraining

  • Before retraining, review what your robot is currently capturing so you know what to modify.

  • If the website structure has changed significantly, you might need to adjust multiple data points.

  • Test your robot after retraining to ensure all data is being captured correctly.

  • If you're adding new fields, be sure to update any integrations or workflows that use your robot's data.
