When you click Build New Robot, you choose Extract structured data or Monitor site changes, enter an Origin URL, then click Start Training Robot. A popover offers three ways to train: Table Studio under AI Training, and Robot Studio or Chrome Extension under Visual Training.
The right path depends on whether the data is already visible, whether the page needs clicks or a password login, and whether Table Studio or Robot Studio can train the site.
💡 If you are not sure, start in Table Studio. Switch to Robot Studio if the page needs clicks, typing, or a password login.
Which path to use
Table Studio
Use Table Studio when the data is already visible on the page. The AI builds the table from the Origin URL:
Session-cookie login still works. On the create-robot screen, check This website needs logging in, choose Login with my session cookies, then select Table Studio.
Robot Studio
Use Robot Studio when the robot has to click, type, fill a form, navigate, or log in with a password. You show it what to capture with visual point-and-click training:
Robot Studio is marked Recommended when Table Studio is not available. That includes Login with my password. Hovering Table Studio then shows: Table Studio is not available when logging in with a password.
Chrome extension
Use the Chrome extension only if Table Studio and Robot Studio can't train the site. The extension is still available, and trains the robot directly in your browser:
Login on the create-robot screen
The This website needs logging in checkbox is on the create-robot screen, before the trainer popover.
Login with my session cookies: Table Studio stays available. Pick Table Studio if the data is visible once you are already logged in on Chrome.
Login with my password: Table Studio is disabled. Use Robot Studio.
Why Table Studio sent you to Robot Studio
Table Studio can still send you to Robot Studio after you start, if the page turns out to need a login. Other preview messages ask you to change the Origin URL or contact support.
Your data is behind a login
The title is Your data is behind a login. The page only shows its data after signing in. Robot Studio handles logins and opens ready.
Click Use Robot Studio. The Origin URL is carried over. Choose Login with my session cookies or Login with my password, then continue.
💡 If you already know the site needs a login, check This website needs logging in on the create-robot screen before you start. That avoids this handoff.
The page didn't load
The title looks like The page at example.com didn't load, with the site name filled in. The address may have a typo, or the site may be down.
Click Change Origin URL, paste the page that already shows the data, then Preview.
Your data points weren't on this page
The title is Your data points weren't on this page. The page opened, but the data you described does not appear on it.
Click Change Origin URL and point it at the page where those fields are visible, then Preview. See What is the Origin URL?.
The site blocked the preview
The title looks like example.com blocked the preview. The site refuses automated visits.
Click Contact support. If Table Studio and Robot Studio both can't train the site, use the Chrome extension.
The preview hit an internal error
The title is The preview hit an internal error. Click Try again. If it fails again, the title becomes The preview failed again. Click Contact support.
